Kristina Rozhkova is a Russian photographer whose work addresses themes of intimacy, corporeality and power. In June 2024 the artist was arrested in Russia following a denunciation linked to a photoshoot, placed in a detention centre and later put under house arrest. Developed following her arrest, Rozhkova's new book ‘Gut Feeling’, is a visceral response to the system of control that continues to shape cultural production under Russian authorities. Taking the cage as both a literal and metaphorical image, Rozhkova interrogates animalistic states and raw conditions of captivity, to shape a corporeal study of legitimate and illegitimate violence.
