Impromptu?
What the hell is it?

Impromptu is a bookmaking workshop conducted by Void.

Working with photographers who have a complete body of work and would like to present it in the form of a publication (zine or book), Void collaborates with the artists to edit, create, and produce a unique object for each one.

As the name implies... real-time.
No tricks, no formulas, no cards on the sleeve.

The Workshop

During this intensive workshop, Void will collaborate closely with selected artists to edit, design, and produce a unique publication featuring their work. The online version of our Impromptu Workshop is structured to allow participants to work hands-on, creating their publication from the comfort of their homes. Simultaneously, another copy of their book will be printed and bound in Athens by Void.

The program is not solely focused on creating a working dummy*; it also incorporates lectures on photobook publishing, materials, design, and technical issues. Additionally, there will be binding tutorials, group discussions, and one-to-one meetings. We are confident that we can bring the exciting physical Impromptu experience to the cold internet realm.

The working days will be broken by a few homework days so that participants will have more time and flexibility to work on their own. The workshop ends with an online presentation of the results of the workshop on Void's social media and wesite.

* The working dummy serves as a valuable tool for evaluating the book-to-be as an object, providing an accurate view of what is working well and what still needs amendments. However, it is just a prototype, and it is not recommended for festival entries, as it is printed on our laser printer at Void, which does not adhere to high colour standards.
